Kathy Mackay
Poudre High School Principal
Poudre School District
I'm the principal of Poudre High School in Ft. Collins, CO. Poudre High School has a boundary the size of Rhode Island and serves 1800 students. We have a wide variety of students including 18% English language learners, 10% of students with disabilities, 25% Hispanic/Latino and 40% of students who live below the poverty line. We embrace this diversity and have made great strides in creating 9th grade cohorts based on students' interests. We've built interdisciplinary teacher teams who work to integrate key concepts across disciplines, and we've created a work-based learning continuum to provide students opportunities for completing internships, earning certifications, and college credit. We've hacked our way toward these changes and we continue to do so every day!
